Productions coming in 2025
The World Music Academy not only focuses on education but is also dedicated to the production of concerts and performances, supporting artists in their personal artistic journeys and helping them bring their creative visions to life. Two significant productions coming in 2025 are Controra and Folktronica.
CONTRORA
Conceived by Andrea De Siena (dance) and Vincenzo Gagliani (music), Controra draws inspiration from the Southern Italian concept of the pause between afternoon and evening, when life slows down. This moment is reimagined as a metaphor for the tension between stillness and explosive energy in both dance and music. The performance highlights pizzica pizzica, a traditional dance from Southern Italy, interpreted in a contemporary way to explore themes of time and ritual. The performance also features contributions from Iris Ros Redon, who brings her expertise in production and scenography, adding a rich sensory dimension, and Walter Laureti, whose sound design blends the past with the present, crafting an acoustic landscape that speaks to future generations. Controra will premiere at the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa in 2024, showcasing WMA’s commitment to merging tradition with innovation.
FOLKTRONICA
The Folktronica residency, which brings together traditional musicians and electronic producers, has led to the production of an album that will be released in 2025. This project represents a fusion of traditional folk music and modern electronic sounds, with contributions from musicians across Italy. The album is the result of a collaborative process where acoustic instruments and cutting-edge digital technology come together, creating a unique blend of genres and generations. Following the release of the album, there will be a series of live performances, offering audiences the opportunity to experience this innovative fusion in person.
